Right Ventricular Fistula of More than Eighteen Months' Duration

چکیده
THE establishment of a fistulous tract between the aorta and the right ventricle poses critical problems in cardiopulmonary dynamics. The higher aortic pressure drives an excessive flow of blood into the right ventricle and overloads it. The increased pulmonary arterial pressure and blood flow lead to pulmonary edema and right heart failure, thereby precipitating a fulminating course and early death in most patients who develop such a fistula.1-3 We have observed a patient with such a fistula that had been present for at least 18 months. Anatomic findings in the heart suggest a possible mechanism for the prolonged survival.

متن کاملPrognostic value of right ventricular myocardial performance index in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery
Abstract Background: Right ventricular myocardial performance index (RVMPI) is a Doppler–derived parameter of non-geometrical ventricular function that measures both systolic and diastolic functions of the right ventricle. The aim of this study is to compare prognostic value of RVMPI with global RV function in patients undergoing Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG). Methods: In a longitudinal ...
متن کاملFistula-in-ano in infants: is nonoperative management effective?
PURPOSE Recently, a number of studies have reported positive results from the nonoperative management of fistula-in-ano in infancy, although it has not been of use in all patients. The purpose of this study was to discern the effective treatment methods of fistula-in-ano in infants. METHODS A retrospective review was done of 310 children who required operative management for fistula-in-ano or...
متن کاملA REVIEW ON HYDATID CYST OF LIVER, WITH A BRIEF REPORT OF 126 CASES FROM FARS PROVINCE
A retrospective review of 126 surgically-proven cases of hydatid cyst of the liver was performed. Sixty percent of the patients were in the third and fourth decades of life. The most common presenting complaint was right upper abdominal pain and/or fullness sensation (92%). Duration of symptoms was more than two months in 61 %. One third of the patients had more than one cyst in the liver....
